About Cherry Bomb
[Words from the Former Owner]
Cherry Bomb was once Digital Dust, a web directory for all sites. I found that I wasn't getting enough members with Digital Dust and had thoughts of shutting it down. Unfortunately, my domain is pretty small and I was in need of sites to make it bigger; shutting down Digital Dust was not an option.
I was talking with Aimee @ wing-less.org and told her my problem and my idea of making a web directory that is a little more "exclusive". She agreed that changing
it to list only domains would be a good idea and I may have better luck with the site. I decided to change the name from Digital Dust to "Cherry Bomb", just because I think the name sounds cool ^_^.
And there you have it. Cherry Bomb came into existance and Digital Dust is now just a memory of the past.
At Cherry Bomb, I try to list the best domains out on the web today. Domains come in all shapes and sizes, and I've grouped them by content. Gaming, anime, and others...now their content can be reviewed by surfers who are looking for that special something. Hopefully Cherry Bomb will be helpful in finding viewers what they want, and introducing them to some of the best domains on the web.
[Words from the New Owner]
Hi! My name is Adrianne Marie (I also go by Eri on certain places around the net ^^), and I'm the new owner/manager of Cherry Bomb, the domain-only, non-elite, non-commercial listing site. CB has always been this way since Cat opened the site and I also intend to keep it this way (with some "tweaks," of course ^^).
I am very honored (and happy) that I was entrusted by Cat to continue on operating and keeping Cherry Bomb alive. I've always wanted to own a listing site but had no clue how to operate one, how to design one, and even trying to figure out and get used to the PHP/Smarty templating system on PHP/mySQL-based listing site scripts such as the very renowned SimpleDir that in some ways, I felt a little discouraged in proceeding with the project. When I rebuilt my personal domain, akalianeNET, I was joining many known listings (such as Glitter, 56 Listings, etc.) including the domain-only listing Cherry Bomb. By the time Cat got to my entry, I received a (global?) email from her saying that she could no longer manage the listing due to many issues (spamming is obviously the #1 issue). I volunteered my services to adopt Cherry Bomb and Cat gladly passed this on to me.
And so, here I am, writing out this little "about" section right now, thinking of smarter, more understanding ways to explain myself and how I ended up being the new owner/manager of Cherry Bomb. I've got many plans for CB, but I will also be keeping many of Cat's intentions and rules for this directory like how she handled it in the past. Just think of me as the one who is going to "add more" rather than "change more".
I hope you enjoy your visit here to the "new" Cherry Bomb. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc., feel free to contact me anytime. ^_^
About this Layout
I wanted to change the layout, just to give a more different look. In some ways it could signify that Cherry Bomb is under new management lol ^^. On the other hand, I've already envisioned how it's going to look like (something simple yet appealing at the same time) and still would be called "Cherry Bomb." ^.^
It's the spring season here (California - a rainy one too!) and somehow I was inspired to create a layout that in some ways would represent spring. Then one day, a friend of mine from Japan were looking at some pictures of Japanese gardens in general and just saw close-ups of the famed sakura (cherry blossom) trees all over the place in the gardens and parks. That reminded me of this directory listing and of course, the "image symbol" of the site, which is the cherry fruit. I also realized that we also have a sakura tree at our backyard, and as far as I can remember from my greenthumb father, he said that "the blossoms must bloom first in spring before you see the cherries growing and riping after the blossoms fall their petals off when summer arrives. Thus, I came up with this new "sakura pink" design concept for CB by using the sakura blossom as its main "image symbol" for this layout. As the "subtitle" up the browser did state, "without the sakura (cherry blossom), there won't be CHERRY!" (which is true by the way...)
The whole layout (actually, just the banner LOL) was created using Adobe Photoshop CS. The white sakura flower and the cherries "hanging" from the flower were all drawn using Adobe Illustrator CS. The Japanese text above the "Cherry Bomb" text is read sakura bomubu, which literally translates "Cherry Bomb." The 3D girl character featured is not a familiar character--- that's right, hardcore anime/manga fans will never know who this girl is and what series she came from! :P Why do I say that? Simple--- I designed her using DAZ Studio and Poser 6, so yeah, she's my *original* character. She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm thinking that I can have this girl character as the "Cherry Bomb" mascot or something LOL. If you have a name for her, please do contact me with your suggestion. ^_^
